The coalition government’s planned constitutional amendment, which would create a special court to examine constitutional matters among other judicial reforms, is the subject of a petition that the Supreme Court has scheduled to be heard on Saturday.
On October 17, the case will be heard by a three-member bench of the supreme court, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa. A supplemental cause list released by the registrar’s office lists Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan as additional members of the bench.
Abid Shahid Zuberi, a former president of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), along with Shafqat Mahmood, Ishtiaq Ahmed, Shahab Sarki, Munir Kakar, and others, submitted the petition.
It has been sought that the supreme court put aside the in a constitutional petition submitted under Article 184(3).
