UNITED NATIONS: As the UN General Assembly commemorated the International Day to Combat Islamophobia on Friday, Pakistan, speaking on behalf of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), urged the international community to take “decisive” action to combat the growing incidence of Islamophobia and other forms of anti-Muslim hate, bigotry, and intolerance.
In addition to hearing solidarity statements from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and UNGA President Philemon Yang, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Munir Akram told the 193-member assembly, “Our aim must be to promote a collective effort to combat Islamophobia with unity and empathy.”
“We ought to make a commitment to applying the constructive teachings of Islam—and, in fact, all religions—on justice, peace, tolerance, and compassion.
