According to the US Department of Defense, Ridah Bin Saleh al-Yazidi, a detainee at Guantanamo Bay, has been returned to Tunisia.
According to a news release, a “rigorous interagency review process” determined that he was suitable for transfer from the detention facility.
According to human rights organizations, Mr. Yazidi was among the first inmates to be housed in the facility in January 2002. Whether he had admitted any guilt was not disclosed by the Pentagon.
The US claims that captured unlawful combatants from America’s “war on terror” have been detained at the Guantanamo Bay detention facility since 2002.
In southeast Cuba, the camp is a component of a series of US naval bases.
The New York Times claims that Mr. Yazidi was authorized for transfer over ten years ago and was never charged.
