The Pakistani military’s unrelenting bravery and tenacity in the face of overwhelming adversity are demonstrated by Operation Chumik.
Lieutenant Naveedur Rahman undertook a risky expedition on April 30, 1989, in the rugged terrain of Siachen, to protect the Chumik Sector from possible enemy incursion. According to Major (Retd) Naveedur Rehman, Sitara-i-Jurat, this operation was a ceaseless fight against nature’s tremendous adversaries as well as an enemy.
Intercepted intelligence that exposed the enemy’s strategy to take control of key locations in the Chumik Sector marked the start of Operation Chumik.
With Maj (retd) Rahman spearheading the push to create the world’s highest station at 21,400 feet, the Pakistani Army’s swift action halted the enemy’s advances.
Major (retd) Rahman and his colleagues showed incredible bravery and tenacity by holding their ground in the face of constant enemy shelling and below-freezing weather. They were wounded, but they never wavered in their determination to withstand enemy attacks and mount a resilient defense.
