After starring in the 69-year-old-produced film The Color Purple, Oprah Winfrey addressed her dissatisfaction with the pay gap in Hollywood and dispelled rumors that she had broken up with Taraji P. Henson.
Presenting at the Golden Globes, “People are saying that I was not supporting Taraji,” the presenter of the Oprah Winfrey Show remarked. “Taraji will tell you herself that I’ve been the greatest champion of this film,” she continued. supporting everything that everyone needs in addition to the behind-the-scenes projection.”
She did clarify, though, that she was “not in charge” of the film’s budget. Observing, “As producers, we all receive salaries, which are negotiated by your team,”
“And so, anytime I heard there was an issue or a problem—that is, a problem with cars or a problem with their food—I would jump in and try to put things right,” she went on. And I think (Henson) would even attest to it and declare that to be accurate.”
Taraji had earlier criticized the compensation disparities in the profession. “I’m just tired of working so hard, being gracious at what I do, and getting paid a fraction of the cost,” she stated on the Gayle King show.
“I’m tired of hearing my sisters say the same thing over and over,” the Karate Kid actress went on. You grow weary. I hear comments like, “You work so hard.” I guess I have to. The math isn’t doing the math.”
adding, “You have a team when you start working a lot. Large bills accompany our work. It’s not just the two of us. We have the full crew in our corner. They must be compensated.
