The 70-year-old celebrity, who is considered to be one of the most powerful women in the world, talked about the criticism she faced for her weight during her career, claiming that “making fun of my weight was a national sport” for more than 20 years.
In an emotional TV special titled An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame, and the Weight Loss Revolution on the American network news, she discussed the misconceptions around obesity and the rising use of weight-management medications.
She said that she had given “all of my shares at WeightWatchers to the Smithsonian Museum of African American History and Culture” and resigned from the board of WeightWatchers before the presentation because she did not want a “perceived conflict of interest.”

“In my lifetime, I never dreamed that we would be talking about medicine that is providing hope for people like me who have struggled with being overweight or obese for years,” Winfrey said in opening the TV program.
