Scientists saw Rakus, a male Sumatran orangutan, munching the leaves of the Akar Kuning climbing plant.
After more than half an hour, he coated the entire wound on his right cheek with the juicy combination that had been created.
According to scientists, he chewed on leaves that he had carefully torn off before placing the resulting combination to the exact spot that was injured—just below his right eye.
In the days that followed, there was no indication of infection, and the wound closed in less than five days before internally healing fully.
Found in South East Asian tropical forests, the Akar Kuning plant is well-known for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. In traditional medicine, it is frequently used to treat conditions like malaria, diabetes, and diarrhea.
