According to US marine experts, a grieving female killer whale that carried her dead calf for over two weeks in 2018 has lost another baby and is now carrying its body.
According to scientists, whales are among the most intellectual creatures on the planet, displaying sophisticated social behavior that includes self-awareness and pain.
Tahlequah, also known as J35, is an endangered orca that was seen on New Year’s Day in Puget Sound outside Seattle carrying her dead calf, according to the Washington state-based Center for Whale Research.
The center posted on Instagram on Thursday, stating, “J35 has been seen carrying the body of the deceased calf.”
“This behavior was seen previously by J35 in 2018 when she carried the body of her deceased calf for 17 days,” added the statement.
