In the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, Borussia Dortmund took a narrow 1-0 lead thanks to the player on loan from Manchester United, who repeatedly showed his class and left many Utd supporters wondering why their team could not get the best out of the forward.
By halftime on Wednesday, in front of Dortmund’s boisterous “Yellow Wall,” the 24-year-old had executed more dribbles than he had in any of his 58 Premier League outings. He was beginning to look like the player that United had given Dortmund £73 million for in July 2021.
Despite scoring 12 goals in his high-profile transfer at Old Trafford, he struggled with form and consistency.
Since his return on loan in January, Dortmund supporters have been able to see a different player—one who has the potential to lead his team into the Champions League final at Wembley Stadium against Real Madrid or Bayern Munich.
