Agents from Homeland Security Investigations examined Combs’s residences in Miami and Los Angeles on Monday.
News sites claimed on Tuesday that federal investigators in New York were investigating sex trafficking, and this probe was linked to the searches.
The rapper and music mogul’s attorney, Aaron Dyer, made the following statement in the first statement made on his behalf since Monday’s raids: “Yesterday, there was a gross overuse of military-level force as search warrants were executed at Mr. Combs’ residences.”
“The excessive use of force and hostility by the authorities, as well as the treatment of his employees and children, are unacceptable.
“Mr. Combs spoke with and assisted with officials, but he was never placed under arrest.
“Mr. Combs and his family members have not been detained or had their travel rights interfered with in any manner, despite rumors in the media. This extraordinary assault, when combined with a sophisticated, well-planned media presence, causes an unwarranted hasty evaluation of Mr. Combs and amounts to nothing more than a witch hunt founded on baseless allegations raised in civil cases.
