To address the nation’s climate change challenges, the Pakistani government is requesting an additional $2 billion from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
During the annual IMF meetings later this month, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will make this request.
This action comes after Pakistan’s last IMF-rejected request for climate funding.
According to sources, the government has taken steps to ensure fiscal sustainability and boost income. One such action is the newly passed FY24 budget, which aims to achieve a primary surplus of roughly 0.4% of GDP. Along with lowering inflation, the administration has pledged to uphold an exchange rate set by the market.
Along with representatives from the State Bank and the Secretary of Finance, Minister Aurangzeb will be present at the IMF sessions.
