YORK: Pakistan has called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to give combating terrorism in or coming from Afghanistan top priority.
The UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan’s (UNAMA) mandate was unanimously extended for another year by the 15-member council. China and Pakistan developed and submitted the first draft of this resolution.
In his speech, Ambassador Munir Akram, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, claimed that the Taliban government has failed to eradicate Daesh and has allowed a number of other terrorist organizations to operate in Pakistan, such as the Majeed Brigade, the Balochistan Liberation Army, and Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), all of which have carried out cross-border attacks.
Akram brought attention to the BLA Majeed Brigade’s attack on a passenger train in Balochistan last week.
