ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar ordered the creation of an investigative committee to look into the mob violence in Bishkek that resulted in attacks on Pakistani nationals, including students studying in the capital of Kyrgyzstan.
Under the direction of Additional Secretary Administration Muhammad Saleem, the committee will look into the events leading up to the violence that broke out in Bishkek last week.
It has been told to finish the report in two weeks.
The violence, which started on May 13 after Egyptian students in the Kyrgyz capital were harassed, is said to have harmed at least five Pakistani students.
Dar traveled to Bishkek a day earlier to talk about the “concerns” of Pakistani students who, along with other foreigners, were the targets of local mob violence last week.
The visit coincided with a sharp increase in Pakistan’s student evacuations from Bishkek, with over 3,000 students having already returned home.
Following his arrival in Bishkek, FM Dar and his Kyrgyz counterpart, Kulubaev Zheenbek Moldokanovich, had a thorough meeting.
