ISLAMABAD The statements made by Indian External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have been harshly denounced by Pakistan as being deceptive and against international law.
Ambassador Shafqat Ali Khan, the spokesperson for the Foreign Office, made the statement during his weekly news briefing on Thursday.
Ambassador Shafqat rejected Jaishankar’s statement, which was given on March 5, 2025, at Chatham House in London, as a misrepresentation of the truth.
He reiterated that, in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions, a UN-supervised plebiscite is required to decide the final status of Jammu and Kashmir, which is still an internationally recognized disputed territory.
According to the Foreign Office spokeswoman, Kashmiris’ right to self-determination cannot be replaced by any election process under the Indian Constitution, and India’s claims over AJK are not legally binding.
