UNITED NATIONS: Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s Alternate Permanent Representative to the UN, has reaffirmed that the country’s position on Kashmir is based on UN resolutions and emphasized the country’s dedication to a stable and peaceful Afghanistan, which he says is essential for regional peace.
Pakistan began its eighth two-year term (2025–26) as a non-permanent member of the 15-member UN Security Council earlier today when envoy Iftikhar placed the country’s flag in front of the chamber.
The flags of the five newly admitted non-permanent members—Pakistan, Denmark, Greece, Panama, and Somalia—were erected at the UNSC’s stakeout at UN Headquarters in New York as part of the joining ceremony.
Japan, Ecuador, Malta, Mozambique, and Switzerland were replaced by the new members.
