Today, Wednesday, marks the official start of Pakistan’s two-year term (2025–26) as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Tomorrow, January 2, is the official flag-raising ceremony for the new Council members at the UN headquarters.
Pakistan has served on the Council for eight terms. 2012–13, 2003–04, 1993–94, 1983–84, 1976–77, 1968–69, and 1952–53 were the nation’s prior UNSC terms.
Pakistan has made major contributions to international peace and security over the decades, including serving as one of the top nations sending troops to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide and actively advancing the goals and ideals of the UN Charter.
In June, the General Assembly of the United Nations elected Pakistan to the Security Council.
