According to the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) Global Gender Gap Report 2024, Pakistan ranks 145th out of 146 nations, indicating that it still faces challenges with gender equality. Sudan is the only nation with a lower ranking. Comparatively, India is ranked 129th, and Bangladesh is 99th.
Since the report’s publication in 2006, gender parity in the political and economic realms has increased dramatically on a global scale, almost doubling in senior leadership, ministerial, and parliamentary roles.
According to the WEF report, “women in the South Asian nation face significant economic and social disparities despite making up nearly half of the population.”
With only 36% of women working in commerce and only 23% in the labor, Pakistan has one of the lowest rates of economic parity.
