The second wild poliovirus type 1 (WPV1) case of 2025 has been confirmed by the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) Regional Reference Laboratory for Polio Eradication.
One polio case from the Badin area of Sindh was confirmed by the lab. Dera Ismail Khan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the site of the year’s first case.
A total of 74 cases were reported in 2024. Of them, one each from Punjab and Islamabad, twenty-seven from Balochistan, twenty-two from KP, and twenty-three from Sindh.
Polio is an incurable illness that paralyzes people. To provide children a high level of immunity against this horrible disease, all children under the age of five must receive multiple doses of the oral polio vaccine and complete the recommended vaccination regimen.
