FAISALABAD: Rana Sanaullah, the Prime Minister’s adviser on political and public affairs, asserted on Sunday that if another “October 12″—a reference to the 1999 military takeover—is not enforced, Pakistan will recover from its current economic crisis in two years.
The senior official of the ruling PML-N made the comments during a ceremony today in Faisalabad to distribute Minority Cards to Punjab’s religious minorities.
In a bloodless coup on October 12, then-prime minister Nawaz Sharif was overthrown by General Pervaiz Musharraf, the head of the army, who also dissolved the parliament.
Speaking at the event, the PML-N leader stated: “Under Nawaz Sharif’s leadership, Pakistan was making rapid progress in 1999, but the October 12 incident led to unprecedented terrorism load-shedding.”
