MULTAN: At the Multan Cricket Stadium, England ended the third day of the first Test match against Pakistan at 492/3, trailing the home team’s 556 runs by 64 runs.
With a spectacular 176-run inning, English hitter and former captain Joe Root became the batter with the most Test runs for England.
With 32 runs remaining in the day to surpass Alastair Cook’s record of 12,472, Root started the day on 32 not out. The batter easily reached his target with an on-drive for four off Aamer Jamal before receiving thunderous cheers from the departing English supporters.
At lunch on the third day, the squad was up 232-2 thanks to his half-century.
Harry Brook reached his century with eight fours in the 84th over, following Root.
