ISLAMABAD 2024 has been one of the worst years for Pakistani journalists, with several targeted murders, including six media professionals and a YouTuber.
The media watchdog Freedom Network also revealed in its “Impunity Report 2024” that 57 infractions had been recorded, underscoring the provincial authorities’ inaction in addressing the impunity surrounding crimes against the media.
The research also points out that impunity for these crimes has not been addressed by federal or Sindh provincial laws designed to safeguard media personnel.
Alarming figures are revealed in the annual report: between November 2023 and August 2024, there were 11 assassination attempts, including five killings of journalists and one of a digital media practitioner.
