KARACHI: In all games of a one-day international (ODI) series, Pakistani opener Abdullah Shafique became the first opening batsman to be removed for a duck, setting an unwelcome record in cricket history.
In the three-match ODI series against South Africa, Shafique’s poor form persisted as he did not score a single run in any of the three matches.
The 24-year-old also set a new record for the most international ducks by a Pakistani opener in a single year with a duck in Johannesburg.
Shafique was removed for zero seven times in 21 innings in 2024.
This total beats the previous marks set by Mohammad Hafeez, who had six ducks in 43 innings, and Imran Nazir, who had six ducks in 32 innings in 2000.
