In Punjab, early-sown cotton fields have suffered severe damage from extreme temperatures, which has resulted in a dramatic drop in total production.
In August 18, 2024, the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) released a report stating that the production of cotton fell to 392,736 bales, a 38.4% decrease from the 636,684 bales recorded the previous year.
The severe weather has also had an adverse effect on Sindh’s cotton crop; arrivals of cotton have decreased to 682,292 bales from 1.478 million bales last year, a 53.9% decrease.
The Land Information and Management System (LIMS)-supported comprehensive management plan and a strong pest management strategy have been introduced by the Punjab Agriculture Department with the assistance of the private sector.
