ISLAMABAD: An official statement released Thursday said that the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) and the China National Space Administration (CNSA) have signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a major step forward in deep space exploration for Pakistan.
On February 5, 2025, the agreement was signed in front of Chinese President Xi Jinping and Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari. The MoU paves the way for Pakistan’s first indigenous lunar rover to be part of China’s Chang’e-8 mission, set for launch in 2028.
The Chang’e-8 mission, created and implemented by CNSA, is designed to independently undertake in-site scientific investigation, technical verification, lunar surface mapping, and resource utilisation.
