President Asif Ali Zardari of Pakistan has urged the nation to promote interfaith unity while reiterating the nation’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and religious liberties of minorities on this Minorities’ Day.
“Today, we reiterate our dedication to the August 11, 1947, commitment made by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah to the nation’s minorities to safeguard their rights and religious liberties,” the president stated in a statement released on the event.
President Zardari asserted that Islam fully acknowledges and supports the defense of minorities’ rights.
“I am glad to say that Pakistan has taken a number of steps for the political, social and economic empowerment of minorities,” he said.
