The Colorado Department of State stated on Tuesday that the general election scheduled for November 5 is not in danger due to partial passwords to some voting system components that were inadvertently uploaded online.
The department stated a spreadsheet published on its website “improperly” had a hidden tab giving partial passwords to some components of Colorado voting systems.
“This does not pose an immediate security threat to Colorado’s elections, nor will it impact how ballots are counted,” added the statement.
According to the department, it notified the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and acted right away.
According to a CISA spokeswoman, the organization is in contact with the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office and is aware of the occurrence.
