ISLAMABAD A notification was released on Sunday by the coalition government led by Shehbaz Sharif, prohibiting the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), which is led by Manzoor Pashteen.
“The federal government having reasons to believe that the PTM is engaged in certain activities prejudicial to peace and security of the country […] is pleased to list the PTM in the First Schedule as a proscribed organisation,” according to the notification released by the Interior Ministry.
The Anti-Terrorism Act of 1997, Section 11B, is the legal basis for the prohibition.
The event occurs at a time when the nation is dealing with a very turbulent political and security environment due to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) rallies that are still going on in Islamabad and an increase in terrorist attacks in some areas of the nation.
