In Pakistan’s Balochistan province, passengers who were released from a train that was taken over by armed militants have described “doomsday scenes” that took place on board the Jaffar Express.
Ishaq Noor, one of the people on board, told the news, “We held our breath throughout the firing, not knowing what would happen next,”
On Tuesday, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) ambushed and captured several of the more than 400 passengers on their way from Quetta to Peshawar. Several people were reported hurt, including the train driver.
According to military officials, 27 insurgents have been killed and 155 passengers have been released. Those numbers have not been independently verified. Rescue efforts are still underway.
