By the end of September of this year, Azam Nazeer Tarar, the Minister for Law and Justice, told the National Assembly on Tuesday that new hardware and software would be installed to boost passport printing capacity to 55,000 to 60,000 per day.
Addressing a Calling Attention Notice about passport issuance delays, the federal minister expressed hope that the new method will also assist reduce the backlog of passport applications now in place.
He added that the new system’s importation was ordered under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) government, and that the process has continued under the current temporary administration.
“We anticipate installing the new system soon, increasing the daily capacity to issue passports from 26,000.”
The minister emphasized that there is an urgent need for updated equipment and cutting-edge printers to fulfill demand as the number of passport offices has expanded from 20 to 92 missions.
