KARACHI: In response to the nation’s first case of monkeypox earlier this week in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) on Sunday ordered all airlines operating flights into Pakistan from outside to implement preventive measures against the virus at the airports.
Because it appears to spread more readily through frequent close contact, a new strain of the virus has raised concerns throughout the world. The first indication of the new variant’s international dissemination was a case that was verified in Sweden on August 15 and connected to an expanding outbreak in Africa.
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa health authorities withdrew their earlier statement that three mpox patients had been found there upon arrival this week and instead claimed on Friday that one mpox case had been confirmed in the province.
