As one of his first actions as defense secretary, Pete Hegseth ordered the action, requesting that officials look into Gen. Milley’s “conduct” and examine his military grade.
During Trump’s first term, Gen. Milley was the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff. However, he later criticized his former employer and was cited as labeling him a “fascist.”
Trump has removed security protections for a few previous officials he is displeased with since taking office again, including former top health official Anthony Fauci.
In the last weeks of his first Trump presidency, notably following a riot by Trump’s followers at the US Capitol building in 2021, Trump accused Gen. Milley of treason for phone conversations he had with his Chinese counterpart.
