After many years, a Persian leopard has been spotted at the Hindu pilgrimage site, Nani Mandir.
The leopard, scientifically named panthera pardus tulliana, was found by a tourist in the Hingol National Park temple located on the coast of Balochistan.
According to Sharifuddin Baloch, Chief Conservator of Wildlife in Balochistan, the leopard was photographed on the cliff face across from Nani Mandir.
This Persian leopard is indigenous to Hingol National Park and is referred to as “phulang” there. Seldom seen in this region, the magnificent animal is elusive in the wild.
According to Muhammad Moazzam Khan, a technical adviser for World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Persian leopard can be found throughout most of Balochistan, particularly along the shore.
