PESHAWAR: A day after renowned religious scholar Mufti Munir Shakir was killed in a mosque bomb blast, the local government banned firecrackers and toy guns on Sunday due to the worsening law and order situation.
In a notification, Peshawar Deputy Commission Sarmad Saleem Akram said that firecrackers and toy weapons were outlawed. Section 188 will be used by the relevant authorities to take action in the event of any infringement.
In order to “ensure effective enforcement while preventing inconvenience to both authorities and traders, a timely ban is required to be imposed under Section 144 of the CrPC on the sale and purchase of toy guns well in advance,” it stated.
Additionally, it will deter the “nurturing of militant tendency.”
