Peter Straughan, an award-winning writer best recognized for his work in the entertainment industry, is embarking on a new project that will explore a hitherto unknown facet of Shakespeare’s legacy.
The acclaimed writer is exploring Shakespeare’s first folio, the earliest collection of Shakespeare’s plays ever printed, in collaboration with Bonafide Films and Runaway Fridge Productions, and Film4. The film will follow Shakespeare’s pals on their voyage, exploring themes of friendship, legacy, and a battle to keep the great work alive.
Folio is based on the true story of John Heminges and Henry Condell, actors and Shakespeare’s former Kings Men companions who set out to gather their friend’s work.
Straughan and David Lightbody collaborated on this endeavor to bring the actions of these unsung heroes to light.”To work with Peter and the Lightbody brothers on this script about the story of these little-known literary heroes is a real coup.”
“Everybody knows of Shakespeare but very few know of Heminges and Condell, and yet they’re the reason that we are able to enjoy many of his plays over 400 years later – it feels good to give them the spotlight they so rightly deserve.” , she went on to explain.
The word that Peter Straughan will be working on Folio has piqued the interest of fans, who are hungry for further information about the project. Shakespereans are looking forward to transcending time to dwell on the story of maintained legacy, as production progresses and a release date is still unknown.
