With indications suggesting that the government intends to hike the price of gasoline and diesel by up to Rs3 per liter and Rs6 per liter, respectively, beginning February 1, 2025, Pakistanis are preparing for yet another possible increase in fuel prices.
The growing price of crude oil around the world is the reason for the expected price increase. According to sources, a next bi-weekly review could result in a Rs6 hike for high-speed diesel and a Rs3 increase for gasoline.
Taking into consideration changes in currency rates and global oil prices, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will make a proposal to the appropriate ministry. Prime Minister Sharif and Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will meet before making a final decision on the new pricing, with an official announcement anticipated in January.
