The federal government on Thursday established a fact-finding committee to ascertain the reasons behind Ghulam Sarwar’s “irresponsible and speculative” remark, which was made in 2020 after a startling statement by an ex-aviation minister led to the national airline’s flights to multiple countries being suspended for years.
Today’s federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad was headed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and members discussed a number of agenda topics, including Sarwar’s statement, which proved disastrous for the nation’s aviation sector.
During the previous Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in 2020, Sarwar disclosed that around one-third of pilot licenses were fraudulent. This was followed by a second announcement asserting that 262 pilots in the nation had “dubious” qualifications.
