Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) apologized Friday for a contentious post on its official X handle that celebrated the return of flights to Europe after a four-year break, days after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered an investigation into the matter.
“Paris, we’re coming today” was the caption for the social media post by state-owned PIA, which featured a jet pointed at the French monument.
People made analogies to the 2001 assaults on the Twin Towers in New York, where two planes were hijacked and driven into the skyscrapers, killing almost 3,000 people, in thousands of comments posted online.
According to PIA spokeswoman Abdullah Khan, “Unfortunately, this was blown out of proportion with connotation and perceptions that were not intended,” with AFP reporting.
