The auditor general’s report states that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which is presently for sale, has suffered large operational and financial losses as a result of its fleet’s extended maintenance groundings.
Routine maintenance on PIA’s planes took far longer than anticipated—between 44 and 239 days—resulting in significant operating interruptions and costs exceeding Rs 21.81 billion.
According to the research, administrative negligence was the cause of this excessive delay.
The problem was brought to the attention of PIA’s management in September 2023, but the airline’s capacity to carry out necessary maintenance and repairs on time was seriously impeded by budgetary limitations and payment problems.
