The Berks County Coroner’s Office has identified him as 27-year-old Nicolas Grubb of Fort Washington, Pennsylvania.
Newspaper accounts at the time stated that the body was frozen solid during one of the town’s coldest months ever.
Though early attempts were made, the body was never claimed.
However, the person who was discovered frozen in the cave has now been identified after 47 years.
But it took the authorities decades to get to this stage.
It is currently said that Mr. Grubb’s family is attempting to rebury him at their family cemetery.
“The identity of this individual was unknown for 47 years.
According to News, Berks County coroner John Fielding III stated at a press conference last week, “A nameless figure in a long-forgotten case.”
“But today I’m honored to announce that the Berks County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of this individual through the unwavering determination of federal, state, and local agencies,” he concluded.
Authorities began looking into how the body got there after finding it at the picturesque overlook.
However, they discovered that a lot of their inquiries went unanswered, and Mr. Grubb lived for nearly fifty years as a John Doe.
