ISLAMABAD: Daanish University, a £190 million (Rs 60 billion) project, has its foundation stone set by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
PM Shehbaz thanked Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and former Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa for enabling the transfer of £190 million to the national treasury during his remarks at the groundbreaking ceremony in Islamabad.
The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) returned the money to Pakistan, and the Supreme Court then transferred it to the federal government’s account. The money would be used to start the varsity.
The sum is related to the £190 case where Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife Bushra Bibi received sentences of 14 and 7 years, respectively, for their roles in the “adjustment” controversy involving the Al-Qadir Trust.
