ISLAMABAD: Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar, the acting prime minister, emphasized on Thursday that Pakistan should be viewed as a forward-thinking, economically powerful nation that puts its citizens’ socioeconomic welfare first while determining its foreign policy.

The prime minister was speaking at the ongoing Envoys’ Conference, which is taking place from January 4–6 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Pakistan’s envoys from major cities are attending to discuss numerous aspects of the nation’s foreign policy.

Interim Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani welcomed the prime minister and gave a summary of the agenda for the Envoys’ Conference, stressing its value as a forum for discussion on Pakistan’s diplomatic possibilities and challenges in light of regional and international developments.

According to the state news agency, the top diplomat emphasized the necessity of bolstering the Foreign Office’s anchoring role in the development and execution of foreign policy.

In his keynote speech, Prime Minister Kakar expressed his viewpoint on the urgent need to conduct Pakistan’s foreign policy in a way that is consistent with contemporary imperatives.

It should also keep working toward world peace and mutually beneficial partnerships, he continued. “Pakistan would always support the cause of Jammu and Kashmir and its resolution in accordance with the decisions made by the UN Security Council and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.”

The prime minister went on to say that Pakistan would uphold international law, the goals and ideals of the UN Charter, mainstream economic diplomacy, and support the Palestinian cause.

Given the significant changes occurring both locally and globally, he deemed the conference to be pertinent and necessary.

Premier Kakar reiterated his faith in Pakistan’s diplomacy and diplomats’ ability to deliver results despite overwhelming obstacles. He also expressed the hope that the conference’s discussions would produce useful recommendations for guiding Pakistan’s foreign policy through current difficulties.

As he protected the nation’s interests and raised Pakistan’s profile internationally, the acting prime minister also wished the foreign ministry and Pakistani diplomats well.
