Despite a “bumper crop,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has formed an inquiry committee to look into the wheat imports from the previous year, The News said on Thursday.
As he presided over a meeting discussing the current wheat stock and future procurement, Prime Minister Shehbaz designated Secretary Cabinet Division Kamran Ali Afzal as the leader of the investigation team.
In 2023, the prime minister asked the Ministry of National Food Security concerning wheat imports. He questioned, “What led to the import of wheat despite an abundant production?”
According to the PM’s media wing, Pakistan, by God’s grace, had a bumper crop this season; thus, it should be made sure that the acquisition of its supplies from farmers is not postponed.
