On Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif promised the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), a crucial ally of the current coalition, that its complaints regarding the contentious Cholistan canal and the violence in Kurram would be addressed.
According to a PPP statement, the event occurred at a meeting between PM Shehbaz and the PPP team led by Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari at Prime Minister House today.
President Asif Ali Zardari earlier today emphasized the recently proposed Cholistan Canal System, which was accepted by the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) last month in spite of Sindh’s protests.
The president criticized the government’s “unilateral decision” to cut more canals from the Indus River in his speech to the joint session of parliament to officially begin the second legislative year.
