ISLAMABAD The News said on Saturday that the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) has been given a construction license by the Pakistan Nuclear Regulatory Authority (PNRA) for the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 (C-5) in Mianwali.
The PAEC said in its formal statement that it submitted an application for the license in April of this year.
Together with other necessary documents covering nuclear safety, radiation protection, emergency readiness, waste management, and nuclear security, the commission turned in the Preliminary Safety Assessment Report (PSAR).
Additionally, the license was granted following a comprehensive evaluation of the licensing applications and upon the successful completion of all regulatory procedures in accordance with applicable national and international standards.
The C-5 unit is a sophisticated third-generation Chinese Hualong-designed pressurized water reactor (PWR).
