When officers from the Los Angeles Police Department arrived on campus, tensions between police and University of Southern California students increased.
CNN cited Jonathan Park, an editor of the college newspaper the Daily Trojan, as stating, “It definitely changed the mood when we saw the LAPD coming in from Vermont Avenue and working with campus officers, encircling on them.”
Park reported that pro-Palestinian protestors were nonviolent until altercations with police erupted over placards being hung from trees.
93 persons were reportedly later taken into custody by the LAPD on trespassing charges related to Wednesday’s protests at the California institution.
