PESHAWAR: According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General (IG) Akhtar Hayat Gandapur, police have detained a constable who was a major enabler of the January 2023 suicide assault that claimed the lives of at least 86 police officers in the Police Lines neighborhood of Peshawar.
The mosque’s central hall was the site of the explosion, which sent the roof tumbling down on the people who were praying Zuhr at the time.
Security officials claim that the suicide attacker was in the front row when he detonated himself during the prayer. According to authorities, the mosque’s imam, Sahibzada Noor Ul Amin, was also killed in the explosion.
The attack was claimed by the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
