The couple’s bloodied belongings were discovered in a garbage close to Sydney on Wednesday, prompting detectives to begin a frenzied search.
Baird’s ex-boyfriend, Beau Lamarre, turned himself in on Friday to be questioned by police.
The men’s remains have not yet been found, according to detectives, and their cause of death is unknown.
The pair allegedly died on Monday inside Jesse Baird’s Paddington, an inner Sydney neighborhood, before their remains were transferred in a white van, according to police.
The hired van was seen at the location on CCTV footage that evening, and witnesses reported hearing “shouting” and a “verbal argument” that morning. On Friday morning, the van was located in Sydney’s southern region.
A “significant” amount of blood, overturned furniture, and a bullet that matched Beau Lamarre’s work-issued revolver were discovered at the Paddington murder scene, according to New South Wales Police.
Det Supt Daniel Doherty told reporters that although the senior policeman did not show up for work on Tuesday, his gun was later found in a police station safe.
