Another incidence of polio has been reported in Pakistan, increasing the number of children afflicted this year to 46.
The virus was discovered in a months-old child in the Qila Saifullah district of Balochistan, which was the site of the most recent verified case. This is the 23rd polio case in Balochistan this year and the second in Qila Saifullah in 2024.
The virus is still spreading, as evidenced by the positive results of environmental samples taken from 76 districts nationwide. Along with Afghanistan, Pakistan is one of just two nations in the world where polio is still a major problem.
