The 88-year-old Pope Francis has allegedly told close aides that he worries he “might not make it this time” while receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli hospital for a serious respiratory infection.
The Pontiff, who was admitted on February 14, is reportedly suffering from double pneumonia and is still receiving intensive medical treatment, according to a Politico story.
Sources claim Francis is in severe discomfort and has grown more reliant on medical assistance, despite the Vatican’s insistence that his status is stable.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a Vatican official informed reporters on Wednesday that Francis was breathing on his own and was not using a ventilator.
The Pope was able to sit upright in an armchair and resumed limited clerical duties, the official noted.
