ISLAMABAD: According to Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari on Sunday, electricity theft costs the nation an astounding Rs600 billion annually.
In an interview with the Geo News show “Jirga,” the energy minister stated, “Pakistan had 6,000 megawatts of extra electricity on Saturday but it was advertently not supplied because it would have inflicted a damage of another Rs2.5 billion to the national exchequer.”
He claimed that because there were unauthorized transformers installed and those feeders were not even connected to meters, the government was unable to supply them with electricity.
“Those who have meters will be responsible for paying if we supply them with electricity. The federation has nothing to donate to charities. Stopping electricity theft is our duty,” he declared.
